Membership to the EMYJO organisation is a flat rate fee and this entitles you to you to take part in as many of the ensembles as you wish. EMYJO 1 is the flagship ensemble for the EMYJO organisation and since it’s beginning in 2000 it has gone from strength to strength. It has garnered a 4 star review from the Guardian newspaper and more recently 2 “Outstanding Services to Jazz Education” awards from the International Association of Jazz Educators www.iaje.org There is an active policy within the organisation to encourage public performance for each of the groups and recently EMYJO 1 has performed at a number of prestigious festivals such as the Wigan International Jazz Festival and the Cleethorpes Beachcombers Weekend. We have enjoyed working with jazz luminaries such as Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams, Tony Kofi and Alex Wilson. EMYJO 1 rehearses weekly at the Derby Independent Grammar School for Boys on a Friday evening between 7pm and 9pm. Membership is by invitation only. EMYJO 2 is a fantastically vibrant ensemble that is a fertile training ground for EMYJO 1. Entry requirements are approximately grade 6-8, but if you are unsure please get in touch! This ensemble rehearses weekly on a Thursday at Littleover Community School, Rykneld Road, Littleover, Derby between 7 pm and 8.30pm EMYJO 3 is our grass roots group that meets every Friday between 6 and 7pm at Derby Independent Grammar School for Boys. The entry requirements are approximately between grade 3 and 5, though there is flexibility. It is a positive and nurturing environment where fun is a key ingredient. Check out an EMYJO 3 recording on the media page. Saxophone Choir This ensemble is exclusively reserved for EMYJO saxophonists. It is a vehicle for which to improve their ensemble performance skills. The music ranges from the contemporary to swing and guarantees to be a popular addition to your weekly timetable. Entry requirements: saxophonist ? Singers EMYJO likes to work with singers and is looking to create a new jazz vocal ensemble in the near future.
